Nailing it! with a People-Centered Digital Strategy

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

Every business can benefit from more visibility, and yours is no exception!

So, how do you promote your organization and gain visibility when you have limited resources or are not sure how to market yourself?

The answer is simple – leverage your greatest asset – your people.

After all, people are the reason you do the work you do. Bettering lives, improving conditions, or building opportunity for people - in some shape or fashion - is your ultimate purpose. So make people the center of your digital visibility strategy.

Here are 3 easy tips to get you started:

1. Start Where You are. Decide Where You Want to Go.

Whether you’re a solo shop or a more developed organization still trying to figure out a

marketing strategy, no worries – you got this! Start simple by figuring out the first outcome you

want to achieve – is it getting more people to subscribe to your newsletter? Is it driving more

traffic to your website? Maybe you want to grow engagement with your stakeholders or

increase your social media presence with greater “likes” and “shares.” Start by picking one

specific goal. Knowing your primary goal will help you determine the best strategies and develop

the right message.

2. Tell Your Story. Encourage People to Tell Their Story.

Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways you drive action – and action is what ultimately

drives change. So, tell your story. Tell people why your mission and vision matters – why is it

important and why readers should care? They’ll care when they understand how your work has

made a difference in a life, in a neighborhood or for a system. Share personal stories of

how/why your work is making a difference. Go a step further by asking your beneficiaries, your

volunteers, your doors to tell their personal stories. What do they care about and how does

your organization help them achieve their purpose or make a positive impact? Nothing is more

powerful than a community sharing their stories of how your organization is changing lives.

3. Commit to a Weekly Digital Practice.

Let’s face it – we live in a digital world. People are on their phones or in front of screens more

than they’re not! So – feed them new and interesting stories that grab their attention, get them

to like/comment/share, or take other actions like donating or volunteering. You already have

the people and the stories – now you just need to create a practice to share them regularly.

Maybe it’s “tell a story Tuesday” or “Thursday thanks” – or simply a recurring 30-minute block of

time on your calendar each week. Whatever works for you – find a way to build a practice of

consistency. Post an image, share a story, report a powerful impact statistic – just get your

important work out there for the world to see!

These 3 steps are a simple way anyone – no matter how limited resources may be – can build a digital presence, share meaningful stories that grow engagement, and gain visibility.

Give it a try – and let us know how it goes! We’re excited to help you build momentum so more people can join your cause and help build a better world for all.
